Chaser is the second EP by Carlin Guthrie. The styles range from old school funk rock to modern desert rock, with an emphasis on a raw, classic sound. The rhythm section hits hard while Carlin's guitar playing goes from delicate to explosive at the flip of a switch. Ian Smith's drumming showcases the perfect combination of rock and funk rhythms, while Brennan Kurfees has a unique sound on bass that makes the group feel much larger than it really is.

Starting off with the title track Chaser, a heavy-hitting, Queens of the Stone Age inspired song, the EP instantly grabs the listener's attention. It doesn't let up, as the second track, Dirty Eyes, showcases some vintage rock tones combined with a modern, aggressive attitude. How'd I Get Your Girl quickly introduces the funk into the EP, with catchy verses and huge, fuzzed out, riff-based choruses, reminiscent of The Black Keys. Where You've Been showcases musical diversity with subtle '60s pop rock influences, and Bankrupt turns the EP on its head with its rawness and stripped down, funky attitude. Lastly, You Know serves as the EP's anthem, with massive choruses and a reggae inspired bridge that pulls the listener in. Overall, Chaser is fast and aggressive, but it's also melodic and true to its roots.

Influenced by Midwestern success stories like Jack White and Dan Auerbach, Carlin combines a rough edged blues-rock sound with grunge and funk reminiscent of Nirvana and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. ... more
